Information for Prospective Students from Edmonton

Why ABES?

Do you want to make a difference in the world by caring for others?

If so, consider training in the exciting medical world at ABES in Calgary. After classroom training in our colleges, Edmonton residents can get great-paying jobs in the medical field—right in their home town.

Our MLAs are high in demand in Alberta, particularly within rural areas—so our training gives you the critical skills to make you employable throughout the province. And foreign-trained health care professionals need only take a Medical Device Reprocessing Technician course before returning to work at a local hospital.

Local Practicum

Local Practicum

ABES students complete classroom training in Calgary and do their practicum in their home towns. Comparable medical studies at Edmonton colleges may take longer to get into than at ABES, so choose to study with us in Calgary and then go back to Edmonton or another home town for your practicum. U of A, Grey Nuns, Misericordia, and Royal Alexandra are just a few areas for hospital practicum experience.

I am from Edmonton and I went to ABES in Calgary for the Medical Laboratory Assistant program. It was the best decision I ever made. After 14 weeks of training in Calgary I returned to Edmonton to complete my 5-week practicum and was offered a position with Alberta Health Services - Edmonton Zone, where I did my Practicum. The instructors at ABES were amazing and the hands-on training I received has prepared me for my career. I recommend Alberta Business Educational Services to all who are interested in becoming a Medical Laboratory Assistant. It's an amazing feeling to be making a difference in the lives we touch in our healthcare field.
