The Unit Clerk & Medical Office Assistant course lasts 26 weeks and covers everything from computerized data entry systems to conflict resolution.

If you become a Unit Clerk or Medical Office Assistant, some of your duties will be to greet patients, deal with visitors, prepare patient charts, book appointments and more. While this work may not sound as exciting as being a doctor, it is essential to keep any medical facility functioning. Educational Requirements
To join our Unit Clerk & Medical Office Assistant program, you must have a high school diploma or the equivalent, along with basic computer skills. ABES also includes some prerequisites you must meet to enroll in the Unit Clerk & Medical Office Assistant program, including:
  • Alberta High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) or Mature Student Status
  • Keyboarding (Minimum 15 WPM)
  • English Benchmark 8 (All Skills)
  • Clear Security Clearance
  • Physical Ability to Carry Out the Work
  • Strong Interest in Science (Biology 30 is an Asset)
  • Interview with Program Coordinator

When you graduate from the Unit Clerk & Medical Office Assistant program, you will be certified as both a Unit Clerk and a Medical Office Assistant. These Calgary courses will also provide you with several other certificates required to be a Health Care Professional. Please note that certification is not regulated.
