Who Should Attend ABES?
Alberta Business & Educational Services (ABES) is a licensed, private vocational college in Calgary. If you've been looking for a way to supercharge your career path in the health care or animal care fields, ABES provides students with the tools, skills and experience they need to do just that. We partner with trusted, established institutions to bring you the hands-on training programs that lead to a greater chance of success in your chosen field. Partners such as Alberta Health Services, Calgary Laboratory Services and Canadian Association of Zoo and Aquariums contribute to our curriculum and, the policies and procedures of organizations are integrated into training. These partnerships help us streamline graduates into great careers.
ABES has educational affiliation agreements with Alberta Health Services in Calgary, Lethbridge and Edmonton. So you can take the classroom portion of the program in Calgary and then complete your practicum and obtain employment in Lethbridge or Edmonton. This is a real advantage if you want to be a Medical Laboratory Assistant and live in Lethbridge, where there is no MLA program offered, or Edmonton, where there are lengthy waitlists to get into the program.
ABES boasts an impressive employment rate for its graduates—averaging over 90% employment rate. Our programs give students a unique advantage when it comes to finding and applying for jobs. Take the Government of Alberta Health Care Aide Program and you can have 11 certificates by the time you graduate. You'll also be more experienced due to our intensive hands-on training—for example, Medical Laboratory Assistants at ABES will likely draw blood on real arms 100 times before practicum, compared with 10 times at competitor colleges in Edmonton, and Calgary. It's this dedication to practice and mastery that puts ABES graduates a step above the rest.

Our on-site centre means a more direct process for students to attain funding and grants without having to travel to a separate assessment centre like with many other private colleges around Edmonton, Lethbridge and Calgary.
